The NamWater Vocational Training Centre which is well-known as "NamWater HRDC" is located on the premises of the Von Bach Water Treatment Plant, approximately six kilometers south of Okahandja town alongside the Okahandja - Windhoek main road.
The centre is registered with the Ministry of Education as a vocational training centre with a mandate of providing full-time vocational training (in both theory and practice) to Grade 10 or 12 school leavers with good record in core subject such Mathematics, English and Science. In addition, the centre is also offering skills upgrading in certain trades to employees who would like to upgrade their practical knowledge and skills in certain work-related fields.
Courses Offered
The following trades are offered full-time at HRDC for a period of 3 years broken down into 3 levels of training:
- Auto Mechanic & Diesel
- Bricklaying & Plastering
- Carpentry & Joinery
- Electrician General
- Plumbing & Pipe Fitting
- Water & Wastewater Treatment (Water care)
- Office Administration
- Heavy Plant Operator
Trades
- Workshop: Carpentry & Joinery
- Workshop: Electrician General
- Workshop: Plumbing & Pipe Fitting
- Water Treatment Laboratory
- Workshop: Bricklaying & Plastering
- Workshop: Auto Mechanic & Diesel
- Office Administration
- Heavy Plant Operator
The aforementioned trades are being administered according to the requirements of the National Trade Testing and Certification centre (NTCC) under which the centre is currently operating. However, the centre is currently in the process of transforming its entire curriculum and assessment into what is called “Competence-Based Education and Training (CBET)” approach. A system administered by the National Training Authority (NAT) in accordance with the Vocational Education and Training Act (VET) 1 of 2008.
Skill Upgrading Courses
We also offer skills upgrading to the aforementioned trades. This type of training is primary given to employees with limited knowledge and expertise in their particular fields of employment who would like to upgrade their knowledge and skills in their respective fields of employment.

Admission Requirements
Every first or second week of October each year, we send out adverts for new enrolment in the newspaper, preferable The Namibian, New Era & The Republikein. Previously, application used to apply in writing, but we now have application forms for both full-time and short course pr skills upgrading courses which are also accessible from our website: www.namwater.com.na
The following documents must accompany the application forms for full-time training:
- Grade 10 or 12 Certificate
- ID/Passport of the applicant
- ID/Passport of both parents
- Birth Certificate of the applicant
- Testimonial letter from school
- Proof of parental income
- 3 x passport photos
- And Employer’s confirmation letter, if the company has to cater for expenses of the student
The short-listed candidates must sit for an aptitude test administered by the officials from the Ministry of Education. In the case of skills up-grading, the candidate must have working experience of at least 4 years in a particular field of interest.
The following documents must accompany the skill up-grading application form:
- CV
- ID/Passport
- Qualifications (Minimum Grade 9)
- As well as letter from the employer
In addition to all these, the candidate must undergo a testing evaluation to ascertain his/her level of competency in the particular field of interest.

We have sufficient hostel facilities to accommodate a large number of students on our premises
Financial Support
Since NamWater is a parastatal to the GRN, our students are entitled to NSFAF loans as well as subsidies from the Government through NTA.
